It's been a month or so since the last off-world mission went FUBAR and Fox's duty rotation is rolling to a close. Packing a bag for tropical climes he books himself on to the next transport dirt side.
He moves his bunk away from the wall and with a pocket electric screwdriver removes the ventilation grill and pulls the sealed medical plastic container from inside the space. He slides it into the bottom of his day pack and pulls the clothes on top of it. Screwing the grill back into place and sliding the bed back he gives the room a last visual scan before leaving, locking the door behind him.
He heads down to the flight deck and kicks back whilst waiting for his transport as the ground crew kick tyres and check fuel cells. He takes his datapad out and pings off a quick message.
The vehicle, a battered old shuttle with a potmarked and scarred shell, is eventually ready. As he stands he brushes the crumbs of a nutribar from his lap and boards the low vehicle...

...The battered old warhorse of a craft lifts off from the shuttle pad, spins on its axis and pushes itself out into the stratosphere, the photovoltaic paint on its hull taking on the dark blue of its surroundings as it jets away from the base.
It begins to descend in large, lazy circles, the earth below resolving into crisp focus.
The bumping motion of the craft is strangely comforting and Fox soon nods off.
It takes the loadmaster to shake him to rouse him from unconcsiousness. Unsnapping his harness he staggers unsteadily to his feet, grabs his pack from the cargo netting along the inside of the ships hull and strides down the hydraulic ramp and into the chill of the winter morning.
Walking the short distance into the terminal building Fox passes through the customs point with ease, the corporate passport smoothing the process significantly. He finds the airport plan and orientes himself, then moves off towards the international departures desk...

...Several hours later and an air-weary Fox exits Queen Beatrix International airport in Aruba and steps into the taxi queue, behind an overweight and sweaty american and his much younger and slimmer trophy wife.
Within 30 minutes the taxi has ferried him to the Surfside Marina about three miles from Orangstad, the capital of the small island. Making his way along the pier to the mooring for the "Lion King" he gives the unassuming dive boat a visual once over, to check the fly-boys he loaned it too last didn't put any dings in the hull. Climbing aboard he looks over ever inch of the vessel for any signs of tracking devices, bugs or anything else that might otherwise be a nuisance to his vacation.
He also checks over the engine to make sure there have been no additions to it. Finally happy that the boat is as secure as he can make it without a full overhaul and proper equipment.
He pours out some rum and adds fresh lime he picked up at the airport, then adds a handful of ice from the bag he picked up from the store just outside the marina. Sitting on the deck of the boat he slips his shoes off and lets then dip into the warm water, then sips slowly at his drink...

...Having spent the night snoring on deck Fox awakes to a warm breeze coming in off the bright blue ocean. A yawn and stretch later and he heads below deck to change before heading into Orangstad for breakfast and a little shopping.
He hires a scooter from the grinning man under the huge parasol and also picks a bottle of water from the ice box by the man's sandalled feet.
A short ride later and he heads to Sunni's Scuba Shack where pleasantries are exchanged, followed soon after by some money. He arranges delivery of his purchases to the marina for later that morning.
Over a hearty breakfast of green banana porridge, sliced mango and watermelon, washed down with an iced ginger beer he waits for the town to wake up.
Heading over to Western Union as his first stop he checks to see if any money has been wired to him. Next stop is the local bank where he withdraws 500cr from the ATM.
After picking up several days worth of groceries he heads back to the marina to wait for the delivery of his equipment.
Fox squares away the stores and makes the boat ready for a trip, taking time to download the latest weather information and satellite mapping. He also checks for reports of any piracy or other news of potential threats. Once the equipment arrives he checks this and stows this away as well.
Following a light lunch he casts off heading on a NE bearing, slowly nosing out of the harbour before throttling up and planing towards his first stop...

...five hours later the boat arrives in the marina at Soufriere, St Lucia. After paying the mooring fee for one night he take slow hike up the hill to the Jade Mountain Resort, overlooking St. Lucia's Piton World Heritage site and the Caribbean Sea.
Booking into a suite he asks the bell hop if there is a good, restaurant nearby, the young man smilingly recommends Spinnakers Beach Bar and happilly receives a tip.
Fox heads out to the restaurant heads straight up to the bar and orders a rum and ginger ale with lots of fresh lime. When the barman returns he asks where the public phone is. Moving into the quiet soundproofed booth he places a call to an offshore bank in the Cayman Islands. He speaks to somebody for several minutes before returning to the bar, collecting his drink and heading out onto the balcony to take a seat in the warm evening.
He orders a starter of saltfish accras, a main course of lobster in lime butter. He washes these down with a couple more rums before heading back to the hotel.
As dawn breaks Fox takes a run along the beach before the tropical heat gets too oppressive and makes the pace of life here slow to a crawl.
Later that morning after changing into linen pants and white cotton short sleeved shirt he waits on the balcony of his room for the man from the bank to arrive. Exactly on time a knock at the door announces the arrival of the bank's courier, a sharp dressed eurasian in a pale grey suit, white shirt and dark grey tie.
He declines the offered drink and is keen to get right to business, aparantly he has a busy day ahead of him. He offers a data-pad to Fox take the codes for the bank account, the alphanumeric 16 digit code and the two passwords.
The computer lets out a satisfied beep and the courier hands over the large attache case. Hands are shaken and the man leaves.
Fox packs briskly and leaves the hotel heading towards the marina. Passing a street vendor he buys some chargrilled corn and a bottle of Piton beer. Once there he undocks the boat and sets a course heading back toward Aruba...

...About an hour into the trip back to Aruba Fox's PDA beeps. Leaving the boat on course he leaves the wheel and moves casually over to his go bag.
Reading the message "If Mohammed wont go to the mountain then the mountain must come to mohammed. Get your arse over to Cayman Brac asap. Op time and you are the man on the spot. Stay low. MM." Fox grabs the charts and his datapad and heads back to the wheel. He makes a few rapid calculations and adjusts his course to NNW hoping to reach the coast off Bani, the Dominican Republic shortly before nightfall.
He goes back to the PDA and types out a reply: "Jeez boss, i'm away less than 48hours and was just beginning to miss hanging around a bunch of smelly, ill educated thugs and then you drop me a line! I'm on route now. With an overnight off the DR i should be in position by late afternoon latest, barring any run in's with pirates. Please advise your ETA, also any preliminary intel gathering or sourcing you need. Please make sure to pack plenty of kit, oh and some footy money, always good to plan for the worst."
With the course set he turns up the music uncaps a beer and settles in for the trip...

After about 20 minutes you notice a small craft approaching your port side at a fair speed. From this distance you can see three men on board. One of them is standing forward on the deck, you hear a slight crump and then the water just in front of your bows skits up.
They have just fired upon you. And it seems as if they want you to heave to.

(im typing this on a belgian keyboard so please bear with spelling
mistakes)
Fox jams the throttle to stop and rushes to the kit bag containing the
gear from the scuba shop. He pulls out the marine K)bar knife qnd tucks
it in his belt, qnd draws out the two spear guns. He ties a 50 kevlqr
climbing rope around the shaft of one of the spears and hooks the
carrying loop over his shoulder. Finqlly h checks the scuba tqnks qre by
the rear dive platform before moving to the foredeck holding the
speargun out of sight.
Heart pounding in his chest he waits for the boat to close the distance,
aware that at any minute these pirates ,ight snuff out his life and hoping
th possibility of a ransom is more impotant to them.
As the pirate moves into boqrding he can see the grins of the crew, happy
to take the rich mans cargo, life or both.
Rapidly raising the speargun Fox squewers one of the unsuspecting
bandits then legs it to the dive platform snatching up the second
speargun and scuba tank before plunging headfirst into the drink, his
prized yatch turning into kindling behind him as the pirate crew open up
with assualt rifles;
As he splashes heavyily into the water he maks a swift turn and swims
under his boat, Taking the time to pull on the scuba tank, Kowing the
pirqtes qre by now stripping his boqt qnd hqve found the bqg of 20,000
credits he fires the spear into the pirates vessel but remains under his
boat till they move off before pulling himself along the rope towards the
thieves boat...

The skewered bandit falls back and overboard as the boat is brought round to bare on your craft. You just make it into the water before your boat is straffed with high caliber rounds. Your boat rocks under the fire then lies still as it is boarded. It is not long before they find your gear and valuables then scuttling her they move off at a fair pace. The one that fell overboard they leave and you see him sink slowly to the bottom.
Coming up on the port aft side there is a narrow diving platform either side of a large outboard motor. You can make out two pirates, one at the controls and the other looking through one of your bags. Probably counting the money.

...Climbing on to the blind side of the diving platform Fox casts his eye around and fixes a long boat hook. Continuing to move silently, hidden from view of the pirate crew he closes to within 6ft of the cabin then putting on a final burst of speed charges at the man counting his money.
A creaking board alerts the pirate to his approach and he turns at the last minute and catches the makeshift spear bluntly in his solar plexus, the air bursting out of his lungs and his body sagging instantly. The bundles of money scatter across the deck and Fox is glad there is no strong breeze to grab them from the boards.
The second pirate turns from the wheel and grabs for the revolver on his belt, the chrome plated weapon looking huge in his thin black hand. Fox continues his forward motion and lets his momentum into the second pirate, connecting with a vicious headbutt to his bandana covered head.
They both fall to the deck as the pistol discharges, the high calibre round cutting a deep groove along two of Fox's ribs, painting his white vest instantly an angry scarlet. Fox drives the matt black blade of his K-Bar knife through the pirate's throat and drives it deep into the deck, his body thrashing violently as the air wheezes out of the messy gash, his lifeblood staining the deck in a rapidly growing pool of ichor.
Turning back to the winded pirate Fox stands unsteadily knowing he needs to stop the blood running from his side sooner rather than later. The pirate is breathing in shallow, wheezing breaths and Fox straddles the mans chest and grabs both sides of the man's head.
"You blew up my f*cking boat!" yells Fox, banging the man's head on the now crimson deck with every spat word. The pirate lapses into unconciousness before Fox looks around for something to hog tie him with. Fox moves over to the control console and moves the throttle to stop. He picks the bundles of money out of the blood congealing on the deck in the hot sun before going in search of a first aid kit at best or some rum and clean sheets at worst to bind the still bleeding gash in his side...

Down below you find what you need, both rope and a first aid kit. With these you restrain the pirate and tend to your wound which although bleeding profusely will mend. After that you collect up your cash and find that 5% of it is now worthless the rest fine. There is some food and rum on board but checking the fuel situation not enough to get you to Caman brac.

...Fox drags the dead pirate to the dive platform and pushes a life preserver over gore covered body and loops rope through it to attach it to steel loops protruding from the deck.
Filling a bucket with some sea water he begins to swabs the decks, pushing the blood into the sea and adding a slight pink tint to the water towards the aft of the boat.
He slashes the legs of the corpse and rolls it overboard, the water now coloured with a deeper hue of pink. This done he takes time to rehydrate and eat something whilst awaiting the telltale sign of grey fin.
Sure enough mother nature provides and the grey delta of a reef shark's fin is soon cutting through the water towards the fresh meat trailing behind the boat.
Fox grabs the collar of the unconscious pirate and drags him along the deck of the boat on his stomach towards the dive platform. He slaps the pirate awake and grins broadly as he lifts the mans head and pointing towards the approaching killing machine.
"OK pal, i'm going to ask you a few questions and unless i'm totally satisfied with the answers you will be fish food, got it?"
The bait begins to thrash around, the water now a deep red with floating chunks of flesh torn from the dead man. The pirate nods rapidly, his eyes wide with terror.
"Right, where do you and your fellow scum call home, i'll get a map and when i point at the right spot you let me know." with that Fox grabs a chart and starts to point at possible points for the pirates to make landfall. The pirate eventually indicates one.
"OK, now how many jokers are in your gang and how are they armed?"
Fox spends the next thirty minutes extracting as much information from the terrified man as possible, the shark having been replaced by another of its kind in that time, like a carnivourous tag-team.
"What would have happened if the boat you just attacked, my boat, been populated by a young family. The wife gang-raped and killed, the kids sold to slavers and the man," he pulls the pirates head up and looks right into his eyes "stabbed and thrown overboard?" sudden realisation dawns on the pirate that his career is at an end as Fox drives the knife into each of his shoulders in turn, slashes his hamstrings and kicks him, screaming overboard into the churning sea. The dinner invitation extended to more of the blade toothed diners.
Fox polices up all the pirate weapons into one cache close at hand, turns the boat towards port (but away from the pirates) and throttles the boat up to speed...

However; a fast Naval patrol vessel is on a bearing straight for you. You realize that while you have been 'interrogating' the hapless pirate it must have appeared and now hails you. "Unidentified craft, unidentified craft, heave to and stand off our port side. Prepare to be boarded." The ship comes up on your starboard side and lowers a RIB into the water crewed by five sailors. Four are armed with light assault rifles and after powering up it pushes off and heads over. Coming along side three sailors board your boat and restrain you. The fourth makes the jump with practised ease and stands in front of you. He casts an experienced eye over the deck and notices the earlier swabbing by the materials being left out and the deck not fully dry yet. There is also some blood from the last man you threw overboard. And the money. "CPO Charlie PNS New Hope. You are under arrest for piracy on the high seas and your boat will be impounded. Come with me." Realizing that to resist will go badly for you you comply. Searching you first they find your blood stained knife and relieve you of it then take you back to the New Hope....
